There’s been so much turmoil over the past couple years that it’s been really difficult to look too far into the future. Who could’ve predicted the meteoric price increases of KD hardwood lumber over this time period? Well, we can now say with confidence that prices have levelled off and the frenzy buying has come to an end.
That being said, mills are still reporting labour shortages, wild transportation increases, and a somewhat tight log supply. Sources from the hardwood lumber community predict domestic supply will continue to improve incrementally but overall prices should remain stable and may even soften, ever so slightly, over the next few months.
The fourth quarter may tell a totally different story, but as noted, the past couple of years have been anything but normal and any far out predictions are just wild guesses at this point.
