When choosing exterior decking and cladding, four key factors to consider are aesthetics, durability, maintenance, and environmental impact. Tantimber Thermally Modified Ash meets all these criteria and more!
The grain pattern of Tantimber Ash truly stands out. Quite simply, you cannot mimic the natural grain sequence of kiln dried ash. The sun always does what it does, thus wood will naturally silver over time. The thermal modification of Tantimber Ash removes the need to regularly maintain the wood for protection purposes. Let it age naturally, or oil it, the choice is all yours!
Ash is naturally durable and strong. When the kiln drying process removes the organic cells, the wood remains dense while leaving nothing for insects or fungi to attack. The cooking process also removes most of the moisture content so that the ash incurs almost no cupping, warping, shrinkage or swelling.
Tantimber does NOT use chemicals in the wood modification process, and importantly, the Ash is sourced from responsibly managed forests. This is in stark contrast to tropical hardwoods, which are often added to endangered species lists.
